2009 was quite a year for the industrious Yousef. He took up residence at Matter, continued his highly successful Circus nights in his native Liverpool and released on the worlds best l
abels, including Renaissance, Saved and Cocoon, not mention his first artist album, A Collection of Scars and Situations, as well as remixing Fatboy Slim, DJ Sneak, Moby and Gilles Peterson - phew! As we now bed in to 2010, his trajectory continues its ascent as he drops the mighty Africa with three incredible remixes.
Things kick off with two original versions that further demonstrate why Yousef’s found favour with the elite clubbing labels. Built around a subtle, yet haunting African male vocal (which he recorded by bringing a live band back to his hotel room while on a gig in Gambia!), Yos uses his trademark tech-rhythms to provide the perfect counter point, fusing a slight hint of tribal with pin-point percussion. Ireland’s Jet Project take-up where these mixes leave off and take things deeper into the night, with swirling FX, wobbly bass and an incredible break down that’s sure to rival the fiercest bush fires.
Elsewhere, Lewis Boardman and Dave James provide the deep house interpretations. Circus resident Lewis sprinkles a pinch of macro magic over proceedings, whilst Dave’s We Love mix cleverly blends a new vocal element from a little known Chems track of the same name(!?!) with Yousef’s own parts for a house excursion that will surely delight for months to come, no doubt well into the Ibiza season and beyond.
